Enhancing The Aroma of Fall This Thanksgiving.

Autumn is beautiful. The changing colors of leaves on trees. Getting to take walks along paths littered with fallen leaves and acorns. The fresh air that blows away cobwebs.  Taking the opportunity to change up your closet by digging out warmer coats, scarves, hats and gloves, along with your favorite pair of boots. It’s also a time to stock up with logs for the fire and settle in earlier as the darker nights draw in.

As we also get ready for Thanksgiving, autumn is a time when aromas aid with making our home feel cozy and welcoming. But we’ve learned it’s not a time to light up those candles or fall labeled plug-ins. They may have some appealing names, but breathing in their toxins (most of which aren’t labeled) are doing us all more harm in the long run.  I now understand why people get more headaches and even respiratory issues around this time of year, and why would you suppress your immune system on purpose? That’s not something I want to do to my family.

So instead, as you consider (and ideally research) why homes are considered more toxic than the polluted air outside, here are some amazing aromas you can fill your home without all the nasty chemicals. Remember, know your source and you could actually be providing a benefit for your family by diffusing the following essential oils:

Apple Cider:

  • 4 drops Orange
  • 3 drops Ginger
  • 3 drops Cinnamon Bark

Autumn Breeze:

  • 1 drop Frankincense
  • 2 drops Patchouli
  • 3 drops Cedarwood

  • 3 drops Lavender
  • 3 drops Bergamot
  • 3 dops Cedarwood
  • 2 drops Clary Sage

  • 3 drops Frankincense

  • 3 drops Raven
  • 2 drops Thieves

Fall Sugar Cookies:

  • 4 drops Cinnamon Bark
  • 2 drops Lemon
  • 2 drops Peppermint

Home Sweet Home:

  • 3 drops Rosemary
  • 2 drops Clove
  • 3 drops Tangerine

Pumpkin Pie:

  • 3 drops Cinnamon Bark
  • 1 drop Clove
  • 1 drop Nutmeg

Sweater Weather:

  • 2 drops Thieves
  • 2 drops Citrus Fresh

Warm Apple Crisp:

  • 2 drops Clove
  • 2 drops Cinnamon Bark
  • 2 drops Ginger
  • 1 drop Nutmeg

As well as diffusing, it’s super simple to make your own room spray for those times when a little help is needed – think of well used bathrooms, or when you finally realize a bag of trash hasn’t taken out for days. Here’s a great fall recipe for a simple spray bottle, which I guarantee will come in very handy:

DIY Fall Room Spray:

  • 4oz spray bottle
  • 2oz Witch Hazel
  • 2oz distilled water
  • 5 drops Cinnamon Bark
  • 5 drops Orange
  • 5 drops Bergamot

After days of entertaining the family and rushing around completing their demands, it’s time to curl up in a chair by the fire, relax and enjoy a warming drink that will also give you a good boost.

Thieves Tea:

  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey
  • 1 drop Thieves Vitality
  • 2 drops Lemon Vitality

There are so many options when it comes to diffusing essential oils, as well as using them in everyday use. When you have a reliable source, the benefits are outstanding.

The question is…What will be your new favorite toxic-free aroma, or do you already have a go to blend for a warming autumn feeling with your family this Thanksgiving?
